Bishops Annual Appeal
My Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We are ‘busy’ people.
With the demands placed upon our careers and families, we
often find that our day becomes merely a list of ‘things to be
done’. We may move from task to task, focused upon the
responsibilities of that moment, all the while anticipating the
next undertaking that may lie before us.
How often does each of us, in the frantic pace of life, consider
why we choose to perform certain actions and the implied
consequences of such action?
As Catholics, we are called to allow Christ to guide the work of
our hands so that in all that we do, no matter how seemingly
trivial the task, our works make the healing, sanctifying and
teaching presence of Jesus Christ real in a world that daily
cries for such peace.
If we allow Christ to guide the work of our hands, even the
most seemingly routine task may have profound
consequences.
Today—throughout the Diocese of Albany—165 parishes will
‘kick-off’ the 54th Bishop’s Appeal. In so doing, I would ask
each of you to prayerfully consider the impact of contributing
to this campaign. When we support the Bishop’s Appeal
campaign, we ensure that:
- Catholic education provides for the academic and
spiritual development of our children. - Catholic Charities sustains those in urgent need of
basic care. - Parishes are provided with essential services and
programs that ensure their continued vitality.
In a very real way, your decision to give—this simple act—has
a profound impact.
Over the next several weeks, I would ask that you consider the
importance of the Bishop’s Appeal not only to your parish but
to your Diocesan Church.
Thank you for your consideration and I deeply appreciate your
support.
I remain, yours in Christ,
Howard J. Hubbard
Bishop of Albany
